:'''''Snappy recovery''''' ([https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18948 18948]) - Improves Lustre recovery and reduces wait time in the following situations:
:'''''16TB LUN support''''' ([https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16038 16038]) - Provides support for 16TB LUNs, doubling the 8TB LUN limit in earlier releases. 16TB LUNs enables users to create larger OSTs and reduce the number of OSTs in their file system. Fewer OSTs offer these benefits:
::- Idle clients mounting servers via routers detect server failure faster
::- Adaptive timeouts early replies are sent for requests received by a server during recovery
::- Default recovery timeouts in a mixed environment (old clients and new servers) are overriden

:This feature also provides enhanced recovery messages that report recovery time, number of clients expected to recover, number of recovered clients, and number of evicted clients.

:'''''Asynchronous journal commit''''' ([https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19128 19128]) - Improves OST write performance by avoiding synchronous journal flush after every write RPC on an OST. When asynchronous journal commit is enabled, an OST returns transaction success to the client as soon as the RPC is completed and the data is on disk, without waiting for metadata to be flushed to the journal. This feature provides a significant improvement in small transaction throughput and can offer a 3-4x increase in OST write performance.
:In Lustre 1.8.2, asynchronous journal commit is off, by default.
:'''''Wide striping''''' ([https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4424 4424]) - Increases the number of OSTs over which a file can be striped to 512, from the former limit of 168. Wide striping improves Lustre's single shared file performance and large file handling by spreading the file over a larger number of OSTs.
:In Lustre 1.8.2, wide striping is off, by default.

This page provides information related to Lustre releases and a support matrix with supported kernels, e2fsprogs and networks.

Lustre Release Lifecycle

This table lists the lifecycle of each major Lustre release, including the GA and EOL dates, and a link to the release's change log.

Lustre Version GA Date EOL Date Change Log

Upcoming Lustre Releases

Several upcoming Lustre releases are previewed below.

Lustre 1.8.2

  • Targeted for release - January 2010
  • Includes support for SLES10 SP3 and RHEL 5.4
  • Introduces several minor features, including 16TB LUN support
16TB LUN support (16038) - Provides support for 16TB LUNs, doubling the 8TB LUN limit in earlier releases. 16TB LUNs enables users to create larger OSTs and reduce the number of OSTs in their file system. Fewer OSTs offer these benefits:
- More efficient server performance by reducing the number of OSTs attached to an OSS
- More bandwidth per stripe
- Fewer objects to configure
- More space per file (if using more than 160 OSTs)
In Lustre 1.8.2, 16TB LUN support is off, by default.

Lustre 2.0

  • Targeted for release - Q1 2010
  • Includes client support for RHEL 5, SLES 10 and 11, Scientific Linux (new), and Fedora 11 2.6.30 (new)
  • Introduces several new features:

Lustre Support Matrix

This matrix lists the kernels, e2fsprogs and network versions that are officially supported by each Lustre release, and for which we provide compiled Lustre packages (RPMs).

  • A "supported" version has been tested and verified against Lustre, and we provide official support for it. An 'X' denotes a supported version.
  • A "not supported" version has not been tested against Lustre, and we do not provide official support for it. "Not supported" versions are not recommended for use with Lustre, although they may work in a given environment.
  • A shaded cell denotes a version that was supported, but is no longer supported in newer versions of Lustre. For example, Lustre 1.8 releases do not support flavors of RHEL 4 or SLES 9. Lustre 1.8.1 and later versions do not support Linux vanilla kernel 2.6.22.14.

NOTE:

For detailed information about the Lustre 1.8 release, see Change Log 1.8.

For detailed information about the Lustre 1.6.x releases, see Change Log 1.6.
